His designs represented consistent elegance, stressing the feminine look. The New Look was the name given by Carmel Snow the editor-in-chief of Harper's Bazaar (american fashion magazine) to Christian Dior women's clothing fashions introduced in the spring of 1947. This collection influenced fashion and other designers for over ten years. The New Look revolutionized women's dress and reestablished Paris as the center of the fashion world after World War 2. The first Christian Dior collection after Dior's death was sensational. All the sketches belonged to the 21 year old Yves Saint Laurent who was hailed as a national hero due to his success. Few years later Yves Saint Laurent opened his own couture house. Today Christian Dior's chief designer is John Galliano.
